Microsoft Mouse Without Borders

At Google, employees get 20% time where they can work on their own projects every week. At Microsoft, it’s called The Garage and consists of an actual physical space for side projects. That space and time given to employees is bearing fruit as a new software release called Mouse without Borders demonstrates.

Truong Do, a Microsoft Dynamics developer in Redmond, got frustrated having to switch between different keyboard and mouse configurations for each PC he had in his office. So as a side project he started developing a way to control them all with a single keyboard and mouse.

That project became Mouse without Borders, and goes well beyond just navigation of multiple PCs. Using the software Truong has developed it’s possible to login and out of multiple Windows PCs with a single keyboard and mouse. You can also seamlessly move between up to four PCs, and best of all, file copying through drag and drop works across those machines too.

It is the equivalent of having a single PC and four screens, only in this case you have multiple machines running those screens. All it requires is that you have a home network setup as that’s the communication method Truong has taken advantage of to get this system working.

Not only has Mouse without Borders made Truong’s desk a lot less cluttered, Microsoft has decided to make the software available to download for free for everyone to use. It’s a 1.1MB file which you can download from the Microsoft IT website (direct download link).

Screen Rotation

You may have accidentally hit a sequence of keys and now you notice your Windows’ screen is upside down. Don’t panic. It’s easy to use a couple of quick hotkeys to rotate your screen back to normal. Or, maybe you would like to flip your monitor to sit vertically instead of horizontally. In doing so, you will need to rotate the screen to accommodate for your monitor’s orientation.

Press Ctrl + Alt + arrow (left, right, up or down) to rotate the screen.

Press the hotkeys and arrow keys until you have the desired rotation. This works with most video drivers on Windows XP. If this doesn’t work, proceed to the next option.

Click “Start,” then “Control Panel,” “Display,” the “Setting” tab, and then the “Advanced” button. Check for an “Orientation” option. Select your desired orientation.

You can also change it in the graphic’s properties. Example is for Intel Graphic card.

Blue Screen When Resume From Sleep Mode

You receive various Stop error messages in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2 when you try to resume a computer that has a large SATA hard disk

Consider the following scenario:

  • The computer has a large Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) hard disk. For example, the size of the SATA hard disk is 1 terabyte.
  • You put your computer to sleep state or into hibernation.
  • You try to resume the computer from sleep or from hibernation.
In this scenario, you receive one of the following Stop error messages:
STOP 0x0000007A
STOP 0×00000077
STOP 0x000000F4
When you resume a computer from sleep or from hibernation, the SATA hard disk drivers require the SATA hard disks to be ready within 10 seconds. However, a large SATA hard disk may take longer than 10 seconds to be ready. In this situation, the resume operation times out.

ISO Files

What Are ISO Files?
An ISO file is a type of archive file that allows users to copy the contents of an entire drive or disk. ISO files are uncompressed and contain many other files that have all been collected together for fast and easy transfers. ISO files are most commonly used as replacements for CDs but can also be used to copy a server, hard drive, or other storage device. ISO software allows users to create ISO files, burn them to disks, as well as extract content from them. Mounting software must be used to run an ISO file directly from the user’s computer without using a disk.

IMGBurn
While MagicISO is specifically made for ISO files and allows the user to extract content from them, IMGBurn is designed for simply burning files to disks. IMGBurn is very easy to use, highly configurable, and is made to work with CDs, DVDs, and Blue-Ray disks. IMGBurn can burn a wide variety of file formats including BIN, CUE, DI, GI, DVD, IMG, MDS, NRG, PDI, and ISO. IMGBurn can also handle audio formats including AAC, APE, FLAC, M4A, MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, PCM, WMA, WAV, and WV.

ISODisk
ISODisk is a free ISO software that allows users to create and mount ISO files. ISODisk can create ISO files from CDs and DVDs or directly from files on the user’s hard drive. Though the files are assembled into an ISO file, users are able to view and access the ISO file’s content at all times. Once the ISO file has been created, the user can mount and run it as a virtual disk from within the ISODisk user interface and can even mount it to the user’s Local Area Network. The ISODisk is very easy to use, can create up to 20 virtual CD/DVD drivers, and runs on all versions of the Windows Operating System.

DoISO
DoISO is a free, open source ISO software that is capable of burning ISOs to any CD or DVD.
